My retarded cat

Apparently Oyster likes Jane Austen too.....

Fine, burst my bubble...

So I have this obsession...

When I was in 7th grade, there was a guy in band named Chris, who was two years ahead of me. I had the world's worst crush him, it was horrible! I guess you could almost call him my first real crush/love. He was also in the science club with me, and I do remember when we all took a bus ride down to Hot Springs to the Mid-America Science Museum that year. But he was like glued at the hips to this girl named Tracy, and I just never had a chance with him.

Then life got in the way. The summer between my 7th and 8th grade year, Chris' father was killed in a motor cycle accident. And since Chris lived with his dad and step-mother, he moved to Oregon to live with his mom and sister instead, and I never saw him again.

So... my poor young broken heart has always remembered Chris and this guy I always thought would be perfect for me, but moved away. So there's always been this feeling of "what might have been" and these fairy-tale like dreams of meeting up with him again, yada yada. Then the internet rolled around, and these websites of classmates and high school alumni and reunion planning. I can't tell you how many sites I've searched, looking for Chris. And even when I found out about the Private Eye website, I tried it to! But no luck in finding my long lost love.

So fast forward, lots of searches later, and even a few emails from some search engine that emails me like once a month telling me the latest results for his name, LOL. I honestly don't remember setting that one up, hehe. At the first of January, why I hadn't done this before I don't know, but I typed Chris' name into facebook, and low and behold.... a name popped up.

A name, and a picture, mind you it's like an inch wide, and half an inch tall or so! But this picture reminds me of how I remember Chris, and after all these years, his moving to the West Coast, and of all places to be, the guy is living in freakin Fort Smith. Yeah, heartbeat into over drive. But since I'm not listed in the Fort Smith network, I can't actually look at his facebook profile, so I can't really tell.

So I emailed him! Simple email, "Did you ever attend Mountainburg Schools??" And finally, like 3 weeks later, I got an email back from him yesterday. All he said was "Yes I did. Your name sounds familiar." And thankfully, once someone emails you, facebook grants you permission to view someone's full profile, or at least whatever they put on their limited profile (I think). But he only has two pictures up. I emailed him back as soon as I got it and said "Think back to a 7th grade saxophone player with a huge crush on you, LOL." Unfortunately my brain wasn't really thinking, and I'm sure I sounded incredibly lame, but then it was also 3am or so. I haven't gotten an email back from him yet, but the story still continues.

I'm excited! I wanted to tell someone, and Garrick was the only person really online to chat with. And I know that Amanda knows exactly my obsession with Chris, but she was at work, and not reachable til my break time tonight. So my dearest Garrick, I admit to my stalker-ish obsession and you know what he says?!?!?! "let me guess, he is a big ol'e homo now?" Well how the hell would I know? So I go back to his profile and paste Garrick a picture so he knows who I'm talking about.

And then I READ his profile...

Interested in: Men

I give up.... Garrick doesn't understand why I'm suddenly heartbroken, but you know, this guy that I've secretly obsessed over for years and years and have looked for on every high school website there is, that I always had a crush on, but moved before I ever got to date him, has suddenly reappeared and is gay, and wouldn't be interested in me. How else am I supposed to feel???????

What was Garrick's response? "What high school girl does not long for the "gay man of her dreams"???"

Remind me to hit him later for that comment.

So yeah, I've again had my bubble busted, and am feeling disappointment in the reality of this person I've had some mental image/picture/idea of for the last 15 years. It sucks, but I did get to call Amanda, it was nice to tell someone who understood why it was such a big deal, lol. But damn.... he's gay. So not fair.

Who else is in my past that I need to close the door on? I seem to be doing pretty good about that lately. Such is life...... :)

**Edit** Yes, I have also now discovered that he is also on myspace. Lots more pictures there, and even a home video of him helping his nephew shoot a rifle, and his voice is even similar to what I remember, just deeper. My poor broken heart.... LOL

Thursday Thirteen #8

Kinda similarly copying Lesley......

Thirteen Christmas (or Winter-ish) things I still haven't put away!

1. Cards on my back door (taped to the back of the door in the shape of a tree)
2. Icicle lights on the top of my curtains
3. The world's coolest Snowman Snowglobe
4. Snowflake gift bags with mostly tissue paper in them
5. Snowman candy dish holding Valentine's day M&M's
6. The village pieces on top of my cabinet
7. The wreath on my bedroom door, lol
8. The gel clings on my glass door to the back yard that say "HO HO HO SNOW!"
9. The red pillow that says "Santa's #1 Cat"
10. The snowman table runner on my blanket chest
11. The ornament boxes on my bookshelf
12. The melted snowman plush toy in the kitchen
13. The tree! Ok, so technically it's out of the house, but it's in my garage, still all put together, except that the top of the tree is not on the base pieces of the tree, lol.

*sighs* Looks like I just made a to-do list of 13 things for this weekend......

New Food Critique #2

Cappiello - Braided Mozzarella Cheese
Marinated with EVOO, Garlic, Red Pepper, Parsley and Salt

Ok, first off, Red Pepper does NOT refer to red bell pepper, it's red pepper flakes, the hot stuff like you put on pizza - aka stuff I do not like! I'm a moron...

So I've eaten like two slices of it with crackers and have downed a glass of water, hehe. However, I'm learning that the red pepper mostly just sets my lips on fire, as long as I put the piece of cheese all the way in my mouth, it's ok to eat.

So basically, the EVOO makes it slimy, and the red pepper is overpowering the rest (but I'm starting to taste the garlic), so it's essentially just funny tasting mozzarella. But it's a very firm cheese and would be good if it weren't spicy.

Another weird conversation for the record books!

I forgot about this one..... it happened while I was out in California. Seriously.... they need to screen some of these people that get on the internet, LOL.

Weirdo: can I ask you something crazy about Arkansas?
Jenn: sure
Weirdo: do you get lots of bugs and insects there?
Jenn: In the southern part of the state, near the delta, the mosquitos are horrrrrrrrible
Jenn: but in the northwest where I live it's not bad
Jenn: your usual spiders, beetles, ants, etc
Jenn: but they're easily controllable
Weirdo: are you a bug lover or a bug hater?
Jenn: I'm not much of a bug fan, but I wouldn't say I hate them
Jenn: I have two agriculture degrees, I know their importance
Weirdo: so when you see spiders and beetles do you step on them?
Jenn: only if they're in the house
Weirdo: but when they are
Jenn: most of the time yes
Jenn: but sometimes I might scoop them up and throw them out, or maybe sweep them out the door
Weirdo: that is awesome
Jenn: I'd rather scoop one up than clean it up off the floor
Weirdo: aww
Jenn: if it's a grand daddy long legs, I'll pick up a leg, and toss it out the door, lol
Weirdo: it's crazy, but if a pretty girl steps on a bug I find it really sexy, but girls in England never do it, they think it's cruel
Jenn: yeah.... I find that crazy
Weirdo: I guess because it makes her look mean and powerful, kind of like a giantess if that makes any sense to you?
Weirdo: you weirded out? sorry
Jenn: no
Weirdo: so did you find the bug thing weird? sorry
Jenn: not really
Weirdo: so have you stepped on any lately?
Jenn: I don't know
Weirdo: no memories at all?
Jenn: no
Weirdo: aww pity

I think I'll make myself a new nickname...

New Food Critique #1

Roaming through Wal-Mart tonight.... trying to remember what was on my list that I forgot for the SECOND time today, I decided to try a few new foods. Inspired by my dearest Lesley, I picked out a new cheese :) And in looking for donuts, I found a pastry to try too.

Prosciutto Panino
Prosciutto Rolled in Mozzarella Cheese

I'm not too thrilled by it, but it's not horrible. When I think of prosciutto, I think of a salty and strong tasting ham, but this stuff fails to live up to my expectations. The mozzarella is good, but no better than the string cheese you can find in the store. The cheese totally overpowers the ham, and you really can't tell it's even there. Overall, it's not too bad if you want a snack cheese, and it slices well.

Hey look, I even found a picture:

Mini Quesitos with Cream Cheese

Basically it's a croissant roll stuffed with a cream cheese mixture, and then rolled in sugar and I guess baked? They remind me a lot of the cream cheese stuffed croissants I used to get at coffee shop in the union at the UofA (the name of which is totally escaping me at the moment).

Totally yummy, but I'm not sure why they're called quesitos. To me that indicates a spanish/hispanic influence, but none of those ingredients are really what I think of when I think of food for that culture...

I'd give them two thumbs up, but I'm licking the sugar off one thumb, lol.

UPDATE: I found a recipe for quesitos, the ones I bought were missing a key ingredient, you're supposed to serve them covered in honey. Makes them a lot like sopapillas, but with cream cheese filling :)

Thursday Thirteen #7?

Thirteen Reasons I should only shop at Wal-Mart No. 1 in Rogers (on Walnut)

1. THEY HAVE GELATO!!!!!!!!! Wal-Mart at Pleasant Crossing no longer carries it, the bums.

2. They still have a fabric department.

3. Sometimes the carts are forward just enough that the heater hits the bar of the cart and you have a warm grip to push the cart with! (#3A - They keep their carts inside instead of outside).

4. The annoying slow guy that gives me lectures about the stupidest things and takes an hour to check me out does NOT work there. But then the guy that works over night tends to be a little too hyper and way too happy. He's kind of like totally opposite.

5. When I paused in an aisle and was thinking, one lady asked me if she could help me find something. I told her I was trying to remember what all went in my recipe and she said she knew where cookbooks were, LOL. Now that's common sense!

6. They have double sided receipts!

7. They still carry Golden Books, although they're back in the toy section and not in the books.

8. They have more than one checker aisle open at 2am!

9. It's actually on the way home, and not a slight detour.

10. They always seem to have my Bavarian cream donuts in the case.... *licks my lips*

11. During the summer, they host the FLW free concerts :)

12. #12 is listening to CD examples in the electronics department.... we'll get back to you later, LOL

13. They're Wal-Mart Number One! They have lots of history pictures and wall murals, it's kinda cool :)

My afternoon visitor

Joined a friend for lunch today, noticed this little guy when I left. He was still there when I got back, so I took his picture. When I headed for work, he was still there!!! He got a little spooked when I rattled all my stuff around locking my door, and took a hop away, but snuggled right back down. Made my day :)

2 A.M. Annoyances

I hate when I'm hungry for something, but nothing sounds good and the only thing that DOES sound good is from a place that's closed right now.

I'm hungry and can't decide what I want.... grrrrrrrrrr.

Just wanted to share my frustration
